WAXIE Brings Innovative Electrostatic Spraying System to Able Services San Francisco

March 26, 2019

Bill Sivori, Project Manager at Able Services San Francisco, does things differently than most. First, his contract cleaning business is devoted to a single client. But, that one account happens to be the largest landowner in San Francisco, with a four-building complex covering four square blocks, a total of 3.2 million square feet of Class A offices, 1.2 million in retail space, as well as the tallest building west of the Mississippi located a few blocks away. Sivori’s office is based in those very same buildings and once or twice a month he walks all 141 floors to build tenant relationships and to be proactive rather than reactive when there's a problem.

“I've been here eight years and have a great staff with an inordinate amount of management for four buildings, including an operations manager, full admin, two supervisors and eight foremen,” said Sivori. “We have close to 400 different tenants, most of which are high end lawyers, investment bankers, insurance and high-tech companies. Tenants trust when we say we're going to do something, it gets done.”

Water for All: Ways Businesses Can Reduce Their Water Usage

By Chris Meyer  |  March 22 , 2019

The fact that clean water will readily flow from the faucet is a given in the developed world. In developing countries, though, finding potable water is often a daily struggle.

That’s why today, World Water Day, is dedicated to “tackling the water crisis by addressing the reasons why so many people are being left behind.” And one of those reasons is the rate at which businesses and individuals in the developed world use water.

According to the African Wildlife Foundation, “If the entire global population had the water habits of the average European or North American, we would need about three and a half Earths to sustain us.”

As gloomy as that may sound, the good news is, there’s no shortage of products, education, and new technology that our businesses can leverage to conserve the water supply.

How to Implement a Day Cleaning Program at Your Facility

By Chris Meyer  |  February 7, 2019

If you’ve ever proposed a day cleaning program at your facility, you’ve likely run into at least one of the following arguments:

  1. It’s too disruptive to building occupants
  2. Tenants don’t want custodial staff around in front of clients
  3. It’s harder to clean with people in the building

To be sure, these aren’t invalid arguments, but none of them are insurmountable if you’re strategic about how you develop and implement a day cleaning program at your facility. But before we get into the nuts and bolts of how to make a day cleaning program work, let’s review the benefits of doing so.

The High Flow Fluid Extraction (HFFE) Cleaning Process

By Keith Schneringer  |  January 24, 2019

The Cleaning Science Behind High Flow Fluid Extraction (HFFE)

“Clean” is defined by Merriam-Webster as “free from dirt or pollution” or “free from contamination or disease,” but it is worth noting that there is no universally accepted definition of “clean” which has been adopted by everyone in the cleaning industry.

According to the Cleaning Industry Research Institute website, Dr. Michael Berry (Chairman of the Science Advisory Council for CIRI and author of the book Protecting the Built Environment: Cleaning for Health) has proposed the following definition of clean: “an environmental condition free from unwanted matter” – and has further defined “matter” as “anything of substance.” While this definition has not been universally accepted by the cleaning industry, it is a good place to start.

Trade War with China: How the Tariffs Affect the Cleaning Industry

By: Keith Schneringer  |  December 18, 2018

Status of the ongoing trade war with the U.S. & China as of December 18, 2018

There has been a trade fight brewing between the globe’s two heavyweight economies for a while now, and the impacts are beginning to be felt by those in the cleaning and maintenance industry.

The two heavyweight combatants? The United States of America and China.

The issue? Perceived trade imbalances.

The weapon of choice? Tariffs.

What’s a Tariff?

A tariff is a tax one country places on imports from another country. This tax is also sometimes referred to as a duty or a trade barrier.

According to Investor’s Business Daily, “the purpose of a tariff is to protect domestic production and jobs.” Tariffs have been used for many years by many countries, and although they do provide a degree of protection for the domestic manufacturing interests of the country who has imposed them by making imported goods artificially higher in price, economists argue that “other domestic sectors and customers ultimately pay for tariffs. The U.S. has applied tariffs on imports for centuries, but the global trend has been toward lower tariff rates, lower trade barriers and expanding global trade.”
