Handwashing: The Do-It-Yourself Vaccine

By: Keith Schneringer  |  November 29, 2018

Washing your hands properly is one of the best things you can do to help prevent and control the spread of many illnesses – and good hand hygiene is a key contributor to helping us all stay healthy. As a matter of fact, the CDC believes that handwashing is so important that they refer to it as a “do-it-yourself vaccine”!

Regular handwashing is a quick and simple activity which can help us all to remove germs from our hands, and therefore prevent the spread of these germs to others (including back to ourselves) which could potentially result in illness. As the CDC states, “Handwashing is a win for everyone – except the germs”!

On-Demand Training with Kaivac's KaiTutor™

Guest Post By: Kaivac

Training of custodial workers is frequently cited as a key challenge in the cleaning industry – and the ultimate correlation between effective training and its impact on the overall quality of work produced cannot be overstated.

In addition to addressing work quality, many studies have shown that effective training can also lead to increased employee job satisfaction as well as employee retention no matter what industry is being reviewed.

Having an effectively trained work staff is vitally important to a cleaning organization – but there hasn’t always been a way to deliver training to the cleaning workers in a way which can fit seamlessly into their demanding schedules.

Until now.

The Future of Recycling in America

By Keith Schneringer  |  November 1, 2018

Recycling is an activity which has been a part of human societies practically since history has been recorded, and there is evidence of recycling going back to Byzantine times, and even much earlier according to some studies.

Archaeologists have deduced over time that recycling activities increase during times of distress or scarcity, and this observation can be still be seen and validated today as recycling activities have been less than consistent in the post-World War II era of disposable consumerism which continues to thrive to this day. As this article is being written, recycling and waste diversion rates stand at just shy of 35%, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

Despite the best efforts to increase waste diversion rates in America by the U.S. EPA, along with various States and Municipalities, and millions of citizen volunteers, the recycling industry faces enormous challenges in 2018 and moving forward.

Guide to Selecting the Right Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Guest Post By: Impact Products  |  October 18, 2018

For industrial employers and workers selecting respiratory protection, there is good news. The National Personal Protective Technologies Laboratory, a division of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, tests all respirators used for a variety of situations and if they meet specific performance standards and criteria, certifies them. Once certified, workers wearing using these respirators can rest assured the respirator selected should meet their needs under specific conditions.

However, when it comes to selecting protective clothing, making a product selection is not as easy. For one reason, protective clothing has different meanings for different workers in different professions and situations.

Updates to California's Proposition 65 – What You Need to Know

By Keith Schneringer

Proposition 65 – What Is It?

Proposition 65, otherwise known as the “Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986” and frequently referred to as “Prop 65,” is legislation which was passed in 1986 to address the growing concerns of California voters to potential exposures to toxic chemicals in their drinking water and day-to-day life.

This legislation requires the State of California to publish and update annually a list of chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm – and since first being published in 1987 with 30 chemicals, this list has grown to include over 900 chemicals with its most recent update.
