Frequency for Cleaning & Maintaining Hard Floor Surfaces

By: Briana Smith, Graphic Designer, WAXIE Sanitary Supply

The #1 enemy in keeping your floors clean and in good condition is sand & dirt, followed by heavy equipment being dragged across it. Yes, foot traffic and general usage is a factor – but not in the way you might think. When people enter a building, they also bring in debris on the bottom of their footwear. In fact, 80% of dirt is tracked in via the front door of a building. As more people walk over the dirty floors the friction between the tracked in sand, dirt & debris and people’s shoes acts like sandpaper on the floor, causing the surface to get scuffed up and potentially damaged. That’s why it’s so important to have a daily or routine maintenance program in place.

5 Places You Should Be Cleaning, But Probably Aren’t

By: Briana Smith  |  March 13, 2014

Anything with a Button

Everyone likes to be a button pusher, but no one thinks about cleaning them. Think about all the buttons that you push daily, both at work and at home…

  • Microwaves in the break room or kitchen
  • Remote controls in hotel rooms
  • Vending machines in an office or...
  • Elevator buttons
  • Timer buttons, credit card machines, and cash registers
  • Calculators & computer keyboards
  • Gym equipment
  • Non-touchscreen telephones

Cleaning & disinfecting wipes work wonderfully for getting into those nooks and crannies that surround buttons.

Microbial Cleaning Solutions are at the Heart of the Bioremediation Process

By: Briana Smith |  February 20, 2014

What are Microbes?

Microorganisms, or microbes, are present everywhere and in practically everything. They are in the air we breathe, the water we drink, the soil we walk upon, not to mention pretty much everything in between. There are trillions of different types of microbes and they fall into six major categories: bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoa, algae & archaea.

Typically when microbes are referenced in the cleaning industry they’re either beneficial or harmful. Beneficial microbes include the bacteria in bioactive maintenance products that are used in the bioremediation process. Harmful microbes include the bacteria, viruses and fungi that can cause healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), illnesses like the flu, and other disease-causing pathogens.

Would You Pay $1 to Use a Clean Public Restroom?

By: Briana Smith  |  February 6, 2014

We’ve all had one of these experiences. The one where you were out and about, and you had to go to the restroom, really, really bad with rather limited options. The one where once you had finally located a public restroom you walked in to discover that the paper towels were strewn about the countertops, all over the floor, and overflowing out of the itty bitty trash bin. And you just knew that there would be none left in the actual dispenser. The potential for soap seemed equally non-existent as it appeared that the entire contents were smeared amongst the paper towels on the countertops.
