Sharing Knowledge & Expertise Can Make a Big Impact

By Marklin Alford

Providing people with the tools and education they need to do a job successfully can be a challenge, but when it happens the rewards are immeasurable.

In 2013, with the encouragement of Charles Wax, I was recruited to be one of the instructors for the City College of San Francisco’s Custodial & Porter Training Course program, which trains and educates students for entry level employment as a custodian. Over 200 students take this course every semester.

WAXIE Promotes the Future of Sustainability in the Pacific Northwest

By: Rick Jones

On January 18th WAXIE had the opportunity to introduce ourselves and our capabilities into the Salem and Eugene areas of Oregon.

With the recent closing of a local distributor, and the addition to WAXIE’s sales force in this market, we hosted a seminar for over 40 local facilities at Chemeketa Community College. The goal of the seminar was to introduce WAXIE, share our Mission Statement, and listen to our potential customer's needs! We really appreciated everyone who made it considering the bad weather & rough travel conditions.

Prevent Slip and Fall Accidents with a Three-Part Entrance Matting System

By: Briana Smith  |  January 24, 2017

Building entryways are major thoroughfares for people as well as all of the dirt, sand, dust and debris that gets tracked into buildings on the soles of shoes, especially when the weather gets nasty. As these particles begin to accumulate on a floor, there is an increased chance that someone may slip and fall.

Unfortunately, injuries incurred from slip and fall accidents can cost a company huge sums of money. The average cost per claim is $20,228 for a slip & fall workers’ compensation claim and $100,000 median per premises liability suit.

America Recycles Day: A Day to Think About Year Round Waste Reduction Strategies

By: Keith Schneringer  |  November 15, 2016

Today is America Recycles Day!

It is a day to educate and motivate our communities on the possibilities of what can be accomplished when everyone works together to recycle and also buy products with recycled content.

And the evidence shows that this focus on recycling is working – according to the EPA, Americans are recycling more and discarding less. In 2014, Americans recycled over 34% of the waste which was generated, a slight increase from 32% in 2005, and a big increase from 16% in 1990 and 10% in 1980.

Yea America!

How Zero Waste Initiatives Affect Businesses

By: Derek Markham  |  October 18, 2016

Zero waste is fast becoming a sustainability staple in the business world, but what does it mean, how do you get there, and how does going zero waste affect the businesses which do so?

First, a definition of zero waste from Zero Waste International Alliance (ZWIA):

"Zero Waste is a goal that is ethical, economical, efficient and visionary, to guide people in changing their lifestyles and practices to emulate sustainable natural cycles, where all discarded materials are designed to become resources for others to use. Zero Waste means designing and managing products and processes to systematically avoid and eliminate the volume and toxicity of waste and materials, conserve and recover all resources, and not burn or bury them. Implementing Zero Waste will eliminate all discharges to land, water or air that are a threat to planetary, human, animal or plant health."
