As with anything, if you routinely take care of something it will last a long time, and it's no different when it comes to gym floors.

Gymnasiums are often the “showcase” of a school or athletic club. Good looking, shiny floors convey a positive image to the public, school officials and athletic teams that use these facilities. Sports floors need specific, proven maintenance systems that will enhance their natural beauty and protect their substantial investment.

1. Know Your Area

Square footage, facility events, spring breaks and more can play a factor into preparing to refinish a gym floor. Square footage – this is key to have an accurate knowledge of how much area will be refinished. Varying finishes alongside individual application techniques can have certain finishes cover anywhere from 200 to 800 sq ft per gallon. Price per gallon can be deceptive, know your product and break it down to price per foot to ensure you know exactly what bang you are getting for your buck.

Preserving History: Restoring UCLA’s Royce Hall’s Hard Wood Floors

UCLA’s Royce Hall has been an institution in Los Angeles for over 90 years. It has hosted acclaimed orchestras, musicians, performing artists & speakers since 1929 when the building was completed. It even survived the 1994 Northridge earthquake, even though it was heavily damaged and had to be renovated. One thing that hadn’t been touched much though was the original hard wood floors in the studio area installed in the mid 1920’s and they were looking rather worse for wear.
