November 15, 2011
According to the America Recycles Day website, “Since 1997, communities across the country have come together on November 15 to celebrate America Recycles Day. More than a celebration, America Recycles Day is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling in the United States. One day to educate and motivate. One day to get our neighbors, friends and community leaders excited about what can be accomplished when we all work together. One day to make recycling bigger and better 365 days a year. Get involved!”
For more information about America Recycles Day, please see their website: http://americarecyclesday.org
America Recycles Day is a program of the Keep America Beautiful organization, a group which is focused on combining education with hands-on stewardship to make America’s communities cleaner, greener, safer and more livable.
You may remember this organization best for producing the iconic “Crying Indian” PSA campaign:
In order to help promote recycling, the America Recycles Day Video Committee has named finalists in a video competition called “Recycling Is No Joke” – even though I am sure they would tell you that recycling is no joke, the video entrants are focused on making you laugh while they deliver the message on the importance of recycling.
While none of the entries appear to be as memorable as the “Crying Indian” message of the early 1970’s, at least you may still get a chuckle out of watching.
Finalists will be named soon at the following website: http://americarecyclesday.org/video-contest
[In the meantime, you can check out the following video link for one of the entries]
