CITY OF SAN DIEGO - Environmental Services Department
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 16, 2012
Councilmember Todd Gloria will be on hand to kick off the exhibit being held at the New Children's Museum from November 16, 2012 through January 31, 2013, sponsored by the City of San Diego's Environmental Services Department, WAXIE Sanitary Supply, Inc., and the New Children's Museum.
“WAXIE Sanitary Supply is honored to be a sponsor of the City of San Diego’s “Dare to Reuse” art contest and exhibit. The recognition and promotion of the important concepts of reducing, reusing and recycling coincides with WAXIE’s core values. WAXIE is a proud, locally owned company striving to promote sustainability and support young creative minds of San Diego,” said Rick Hawkins, WAXIE Sales Manager.
To demonstrate the value of reusing resources, the “Dare to Reuse” artists use other peoples’ "throw away" materials such as paper, glass, metals and wood to create art pieces including painting, sculpture and even a model house.
The top twelve winners are chosen to be in an on-line calendar on the ESD website, and this year is the first that the pieces will be on exhibit at a one-of-a-kind museum that provides inventive and engaging art experiences that are meaningful to children and families.
