Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 2015

Posted by Blake Vanderwiel on Oct 7, 2015 9:29:27 AM

WAXIE is a flagship sponsor in the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer foundation. Each branch supports their local walk in an effort to raise awareness and money for cancer research.

On Sunday, October 4th, 2015 the WAXIE-Ontario team participated in the Riverside Making Strides walk at Rancho Jurupa Park. While the weather was rainy and windy, it didn’t dampen the commitment or spirit of our team.

WAXIE Ontario raised a total of $4,011 and had a total of 51 people walk including Executives, Operations Staff, Sale Representatives, Support Staff, and vendors. To raise funds, we held a 50/50 raffle, a raffle for a donated vacuum, two Sundae Socials, Biggest Loser Competition, sold pins and bracelets, and our very own WAXIE employees raised money to support the cause. Our top member who raised the most was Stacy Main, raising a total of $500! We had great help from our team members who assisted with the organization of the fundraisers hosted and prepare for the main event. This was the first time WAXIE Ontario participated in the Making Strides of Riverside, and out of the 70 teams who participated we collected the second highest amount of donations!

WAXIE is honored to be a part of such a special event. In all, there were 601 participants who raised a total of $29,261, and showed up to Riverside Jurupa Park to support a great cause and walk the 3 miles. It was encouraging to see how many people showed up rain or shine to walk for their loved ones. To see survivors donned in their pink head bands, shirts, shoes, pants, and other attire. To see vendors donating coffee, food, and other goods and services. All 601 participants strolled down the muddy path and battled the rain and wind. However, the weather could never compare to what these brave survivors have gone through or continue to go through. By supporting this cause we honor and celebrate breast cancer survivors, raise awareness about the disease, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society save lives from breast cancer. The money donated to Making Strides goes towards groundbreaking breast cancer research, provides free comprehensive information and support, and helps people take steps to reduce their risk of the disease or find it early when it’s most treatable.

We appreciate all the support from our employees to our vendors as each year we strive to do better than the previous year. Again we appreciate all who battled the weather Sunday morning to come out and support Making Strides and WAXIE as we honor, celebrate and support breast cancer survivors and those still fighting the fight!
